What kind of buses do you have?

I have a 69 bay, a 71 bay and a 65 Single cab. Check Ads weekly and am on the look out for a panel or double cab, split or bay doesn’t matter which. I really like all classic VW`s

and battle constantly against the urge of buying old wrecks- at the moment Im loosing that battle.

Tell us about a trip you took in a bus that stands out in your mind?

Vanfest in England. Armed with a pocket of cash and no tooth brush and with just a two day change of clothes for a five day trip I was on the make for adventure. I like to travel light and anything I need along the way ill just get if I remember. It was real fun driving over borders without even realizing it, as is the way in Europe, no border controls at all.
Most fun was the language barriers and silly stuff like checking if they really do have “Le Big Mac” on the menu  at MacDonald’s in France (they don’t). Belgium was interesting too a very strange place, I slept through Holland so I can’t say much about that. I can’t wait to do it again next year- hopefully in Leadbelly my 69 bay.
How long have you had a love for buses?

As long as I can remember I guess,  I always thought they were cool and just so practical. You just chuck your stuff in and drive off somewhere Friday after work for the weekend, they’re just filled with so much adventure. You can’t do that in the same way with a conventional car.

What modification have you done that you are happiest with?

I’m in the process of renovating and modifying the 69 bay at the moment so its hard to say anything at all as I haven’t really done anything with my buses yet apart from drive.

What advice would you give a "new" Vw bus owner?

Don’t be afraid to use your bus, get in it and let it take you places. A weekend can be more than just 2 days off work; it can be an adventure into the unknown. Don’t be afraid to do small repairs yourself; it’s a great way to get to know your bus.

A little bit more about McT

I’m 33 and born in London, UK although I now live in Northern Europe on an Island.  I guess Im curious, stubborn and in a sense laid back all at once. If a road sign said STOP id drive thinking “hell, this could be fun, if not I can drive back”. I believe all experience is good even the bad ones and I believe that there’s some good in everyone and lots of bad too. Bad doesn’t have to be all that bad.  I have a sinister sense of humor which gets me into trouble a lot
